Cebu topnotcher on medical exams ‘God’s grace’

08/20/2010 - THE Cebuano topnotcher in the recent Physician Licensure Examination said he considered his achievement the work of “God’s grace”.
Paul Vincent Tio Co, 26, of Mambaling, Cebu City, placed seventh in the nationwide examination. Results were released on Wednesday.

Co got a score of 87.75 percent and was among of the 1,597 passers from the 2,300 student who took the examination.

Co graduated magna cum laude in April 2009 in the Cebu Institute of Medicine.

“I did not expect to make it to the top ten because the exam was very difficult. It was God’s grace,” he said over dyLA yesterday.

In his Facebook account, Tio shared his joy and congratulated all his friends who also passed.

In an interview, Co said he attributed his success to God, parents and friends.

During the interview, he would break out in laughter every now and then. He said he was still overwhelmed by the result.

Co said he wanted to have his residency training in Chong Hua Hospital because it has the best training for internal medicine, the area he wants to specialize in.

Asked if he wanted to go to government hospital or community service, he said, maybe after his training.

He did not discount the possibility of going abroad.
